Surrey – Passivhaus newbuild Eco Home

This project was a new Build PassivHaus. Greentomatoenergy worked as PassivHaus consultants with the client’s architect, Paper Project Architecture and Design, to design a new build PassivHaus in Claygate Surrey.

The client was keen to achieve PassivHaus standards for planning, environmental and financial reasons.

Of particular note is that property was built using a sustainable cross-laminated timber structure. The external walls, roof and internal partitions were assembled in one week! The rest of the onsite construction process was made relatively simple, as all service holes, etc. were already included in the timber structure before arriving on site.

As the property is built to PassivHaus standards, it includes high performance insulation, triple glazed windows and is highly airtight. A water vapour resistant layer was installed to avoid condensation problems.

The PHPP demonstrates a specific heat demand of 14 kWh/m2.year, which satisfies PassivHaus standards, but the client decided against certification.

Greentomatoenergy provided the passivhaus design services, MVHR commissioning, airtightness testing and solar thermal installation.
